One Century of History

In a certain morning, about 100 years ago, Victor Guedes opened his bedroom windows. In that moment, a rooster began to sing. It was this happening that inspired Victor Guedes to baptize his olive oil with the name that we all now know.

And what is the reason for writing "gallo" with two "LL"? We, the Portuguese, write rooster as Galo, not Gallo. The reason though is very simple. It's author was in fact Galician, from Spain. And thus an original name was born for an original brand.

It is, since 1919, that the first records of the Gallo brand take place - one year after the end of the 1st World War and by the same time that the Bauhaus artistic movement started in Europe. By these times, the olive oil was packed in their unique tin cans (brilliantly recovered last year in special editions). And as incredible as it may be, for decades, it never sold for domestic commerce.

It was only in 1969 that the brand decided to change it's marketing strategy and set the national selling as its primary objective. In the next twenty years, and really up to now a great variety of investments and improvements have been made to the Gallo olive oil. It's now in our tables, and in our hearts!
